July 13, 1940 – William J. Duchaine of the Escambia Daily Press Company in Escanaba, Michigan, urges Dent to come to Nahma to work as an instructor August 11-24. Dent will conduct ten 90-minute lessons on short story writing over the two-week period. The consists of room and board plus a split of the tuition money sans expenses. Duchaine that will probably just be enough to pay for oil and gas for the trip.

July 28, 1940 – William J. Duchaine of the Escambia Daily Press Company in Escanaba, Michigan, writes telling Dent how pleased he is that Dent is coming. He tells Dent to arrive August 10-11. Vacation School Opens Its Second Week Today – New students will be enrolled in the second week of the summer school classes. Two of the art instructors, Robert Von Neumann and Reeda Seldon are sponsoring an exhibit of their individual works. Lester Dent is one of the instructors and will teach a course on the short story. Mr. and Mrs. Dent Return From East – In addition to being in New York, the Dent also traveled to Canada and the northern peninsula of Michigan. Dent was a lecturer at the Nahma Summer Vacation Conference in Nahma, Michigan. Dent remarked that during their travels through Canada they saw active construction on army fields.
